BOSTON—Two Boston men have been convicted of killing two people during a shootout, including a chef inside a nearby restaurant who was an unintended victim.

Emmanuel Pina and Sandro Tavares were convicted on Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court on two counts of murder each for their roles in the August 2009 shooting outside Ka’Carlos Bar and Grill in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood.

The shooting stemmed from a confrontation earlier inside the restaurant.

Prosecutors say once outside, Pina shot at Jovany Eason, but the bullet missed and went through the restaurant’s window, hitting 47-year-old chef Manuel Monteiro in the chest, killing him.

Authorities say Pina then continued firing at Eason, striking him several times.

Both men face mandatory life terms without the possibility of parole at sentencing Tuesday.
